30milesOUT.com- FLY FISHING SHIRMP FLY PATTERNS FOR RED FISH- PORT O CONNER , TX

NO KAYAK FISHING TODAY! THE KAYAK'S WERE LEFT AT THE DOCK... wade fishing and site casting with a 7 weight flyrod is the order of business!on this episode i hit the middle texas coast flats with 2 buddies from new mexico... dave and justin are super serious fly fishing guys from albuquerque NM... dave comes down to the texas coast 21 days a year to fly fish... he is always on the lookout for bull redfish, jack crevalle, lady fish, spanish mackerel , tarpon and what ever else he can find... on this trip the target was redfish.... what dave and i usually do, is load up his 2 ocean kayak prowlers into his or my boat... we launch at the fishermens center or froggies in port o' conner, tx... we run way back to the army hole or pringle lake and launch the kayaks! we hit some real remote areas with those kayaks being mother shipped out by the bay boats...
on this trip we left the kayak's at home and decided to do some wade fishing/site casting with the fly rods... we pulled dave's old hydra-sport 18' boat up to the sand flat just south of the intercoastal jetty.... we arrived at day break and began to start walking... the tails were not there? the conditions were good aside from a little bit 2 much water... the tide was in and the flats were a little flooded for our taste... but we made the best of it... i was throwing a bend back deciever fly and dave was chunking crab patterns like kwans and merkin crabs... we both caught some small rat reds and small speck's but nothing to write home about... i did hang a nice mullet on the fly! i think it was snagged but if you would like to learn how to catch mullet on the fly on purpose, watch the video... i show a how to on mullet on the fly...
dave and i ended up doing pretty well with some podding fish... justin caught a few tailing reds for the first time... we all were happy .. this was a fun episode to film... love site casting those texas flats...
PS. gear used... 7 weight fly rods. sage rods, temple fork outfitter rods, lamson and loop fly reels.. 7wt orvis redfish tapor and 8wt orvis bonefish tapor... wade boots for oysters... shrimp fly patterns, crab patterns, bend backs and clouser minnows...
